While using a hands-free headset is probably safer than using a handheld phone in some circumstances, I think the real solution to reducing cell phone related traffic accidents is for people to stop making unnecessary phone calls while driving. I believe well over 99% of cell phone calls made today are unnecessary.

Strangely, I also often see people using bluetooth headsets in situations where they could just as easily be using a handheld phone (e.g. standing outside on the sidewalk). Perhaps these people like their bluetooth headsets because they get off thinking they look like a cyborg?

The Low Tech Times verdict: Bluetooth headsets are unnecessary.
