Old-Timer to Attempt Marathon

Running is a low-tech sport, with shoes being the only equipment required.  I happened to go on an enjoyable run this afternoon on the Appalachian Trail.  It was just a short run for me today, but I have completed marathons in previous years.

The marathon is an old sport orginating from when Pheidippides, a Greek soldier, ran non-stop 26.2 miles from Marathon to Athens in order to deliver the news that the Persians were defeated in battle.  Since that time, marathoning has become a popular sport as more and more people get excited at the possibility of going the distance.

My friend KMC sent me an email informing me that an old-timer will be attempting to become the oldest person to finish a marathon this year.  He is entered in the London Marathon, which will take place on April 13, 2008. Interestingly, Buster Martin is a runner with some vices; he recently completed a half-marathon and enjoyed a beer and cigarette afterwards.  The lively 101 year old is also a member of The Zimmers rock band.

The Low-Tech Times wishes Buster well with his human-powered pursuit.
