The Chumby is Not Recommended

Last week, the Robot In the Woods site endorsed the Chumby, which is an alarm clock with Internet access.  Despite the Robot in the Woods endorsement, The Low-Tech Times does not believe the Chumby is a necessary hi-tech gadget.  A couple of questions come to mind:

  1. Why do you need an alarm clock with Internet access if you already have a computer?
  2. How does the Chumby know what URLs to access…  is there a full size keyboard? If not, it does not seem like it would be easy to use.

The Low-Tech Times advices against purchasing the Chumby.  Instead, the Low-Tech Times recommends a simple wind-up alarm clock.
