Shenandoah Valley Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival Report

Filed under: MISCELLANEOUS, news--classic transportation, other — admin @ 7:44 pm

I was surprised that so many people decided to attend the festival.  My wife and I were actually a little disappointed since the crowds caused long lines at the Virginia wine tasting tents.

We went on Saturday, and unfortunately the hot air balloons were grounded at the time due to high winds.  Here’s a shot of the BB&T Bank balloon.

  2. Yeah, I went to the Virginia wine festival last year and will never go back. We took a bus from Arlington that left 30 minutes late and drove to Leesburg slowly. There was a 45 minute line to get in the “VIP Bus” entrance, because all the buses unloaded at the exact same time. We were standing in the blazing morning sun with no cover this entire time. We gave up on tastings because we had to wait 10-15 minutes for each taste. Eventually we just bought some bottles and sat in the ground in the sun (you had to have some kind of special pass to sit at a table underneath a tent). Not that there was any live music to watch or anything anyway. The bathroom and food lines were at least 15 minutes long. (portopotties can’t cost that much to rent…why couldn’t they have had enough?) So eventually we spend over two hours in a bus and two hours in lines to sit in the dirt for 3 hours…blah!

  3. Thanks for your comment. I’m guessing the VA Wine Festival is the one at Bull Run? This one wasn’t that bad and there was live music, etc. Larry Keel played the day we went.
