Facebook’s TOS Debacle

I do not have a Facebook account.  Many months ago, I wrote an article entitled Facebook Accounts Are Completely Unnecessary.  Since then at the request of friends, I have considered signing up for Facebook.  However, I admit I still get a kick out of reading about Facebook problems.

Most recently, Facebook altered their terms of service so that their company would own anything uploaded by Facebook users, including items deleted by Facebook users.  Tech-guru blogger Robert Scoble wrote that this was not a big deal.  However, apparently it was a big deal to Facebook since they reverted to a previous terms of service agreement.

Steve Hall describes the situation for AdRants:

Apparently freaked out over Facebook’s change in TOS, the lame explanation of it and the return to the old TOS, droves of people are canceling their Facebook accounts. And it must be droves because why else would Facebook show a message that pleads people going through the deletion process to stay.
