This is a great book, and if you become enthralled with Mosby, as I did, try to find a reprint of John Munson's book Reminiscences of a Mosby Guerilla. Munson was only 17 or so when he joined Mosby's band and his first-hand account, written after the war, is both hilarious and touching.

I patterned the main character in my Civil War novel, Shades of Gray, after John Mosby - one of the most gallant and romantic figures of the war. There are a number of books out written by Mosby's men, and also more contemporary versions. For a eye-opening account of independent cavalry activities, I highly recommend anything with the name Mosby on it!
