What Am I Missing?

TV screen

As long-time readers of The Low-Tech Times may already know, I canceled our cable tv subscription when living in Arlington to save money. Since that time, we moved to a rural neighborhood that is not wired for cable. Many people who cannot get cable choose satellite tv; however, I continue to be a fan of free tv.

My favorite TV program is 24 which is broadcast free-of-charge on over-the-air television. I just started watching the show last year and enjoy watching the far-fetched, but exciting program.

When will 24 start again?

Season 8 of 24 will begin on 1/17/2010.

Non-free Shows

Every year, there seems to be some cable show that is talked about extensively in the news. Last year, it was Jon and Kate plus 8. I’m not sure what the big deal is about the show… from what I understand it’s a reality show about a couple with issues raising lots of kids. That doesn’t sound like something I need to pay to see.

This year, the hot pay-tv show seems to be Mad Men. Is it any good? Do you think it really worth paying $30-$100 a month for subscription tv service?

Yesterday actually provides a rare example of missing out on something I might’ve watched with free tv. CBS did not show the Women’s Tennis US Open final; it was only on ESPN. However, it was livecast at usopen.org
