Train Tuesdays
In the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, there was a lot of steam railroading action in Virginia thanks to the Norfolk Southern Steam Operations program. Currently, however, the only live steam in Virginia is a narrow gauge railroad at Busch Garden’s in Williamsburg.
But could mainline steam return to the Old Dominion? According to this Eric Eyre article in the Charleston Gazette, there is hope:
Greenbrier guests would board the train — pulled by one of the last steam locomotives manufactured in the U.S. — at historic Union Station in Washington. The trip would take five hours and 15 minutes. Horse-drawn carriages would pick up guests at the White Sulphur Springs train station, just outside the resort’s main entrance.
