2009 Album of the Year

Music Mondays

No Depression Discussion

I’ve been checking out the No Depression website regularly. No Depression is an American music magazine that stopped publishing a printed version and is now online only.

They recently announced their top 50 albums of 2009. I noticed Buddy & Julie Miller’s Written in Chalk Buddy & Julie Miller - Written In Chalk topped their list at #1.

I hadn’t heard of them previously so checked out their music on myspace. I thought the acoustic Forever Has Come to an End Buddy Miller & Julie Miller - Buddy & Julie Miller - Forever Has Come to an End was a good song. Julie’s voice reminded me of Emmylou Harris. Some of their other songs were electric and sounded a bit like Tom Petty to me, like Worry Too Much Buddy Miller - Universal United House of Prayer - Worry Too Much. Those songs were recorded earlier, prior to their new Written in Chalk album.

Low-Tech Times

I have to admit I didn’t buy a whole lot of albums this year, but my favorite was A Friend of a Friend Dave Rawlings Machine - A Friend of a Friend by the Dave Rawlings Machine. This album came in #18 on the No Depression list, but #1 for the Low-Tech Times.
