Train Tuesdays
Earlier this month, Pennsylvania’s Strasburg Railroad painted and renumbered their former Norfolk & Western 4-8-0 Class M #475 to look like #382 for a photograher’s special. Norfolk & Western #382 was recorded and photographed by O. Winston Link on the Abingdon Branch in Virginia during some of the last days of regular service steam railroading. Number 382 had a customized whistle which was preserved and brought up to Strasburg from Virginia for this special reenactment.
The branch line from Abingdon to White Top and beyond was abandoned and is now a scenic gravel bicycle trail known as the Virginia Creeper. There is also an Old Crow Medicine Show written by Critter Fuqua entitled New Virginia Creeper
