I’m not a golf fan, so I’m more excited about Norfolk Southern Railway’s Office Car Special, led by restored F-unit diesels, than I am about Tiger Wood’s return to golf. The train journeys every year to the Master’s Golf Tournament. While not as exciting as seeing a steam-powered excursion train, it’s still nice to see classic f-units pulling a string of NS tuscan red coaches.
This year, the office car special left its home terminal in Altoona, Pennsylvania a week early. Internet reports indicate that the train may tour part of the Florida East Coast Railway prior to the Master’s.
Unfortunately, the timing last Friday brought the train down through Northern Virginia after dark. I waited trackside for awhile a bit north of Riverton Junction, but went home before the train rolled through. Perhaps I’ll be able to get photos and video on its return trip. Fortunately, YouTube user BranchForks posted a nice video of the train crossing the New River on its way down:
