I blogged last week about National Train Day, specifically that the 611 would be moved out of the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Later, I found out that Norfolk Southern was taking special equipment to National Train Day events in Washington DC, including a classic f-unit along with a modern experimental electric locomotive.
As was the case last week, I am sometimes unable to get trackside for train watching due to life’s demands. Fortunately, there is an excellent photographer who very regularly documents special movements, interesting power, and more. David B. Davies Train Photographs are professional quality (much better than I’d get with my point-and-shoot camera). Dave updates his news page fairly often, but as of this writing he is featuring the NS special en route to the DC National Train Day event on his news page. If you scroll down on his main page, he also has some excellent shots on his site from the Southern/NS steam excursion days.
