Remember when MTV played music videos? Nowadays, the cable channel is less about music and instead is filled with “reality” tv shows.

However, recently I’ve noticed I’m picking up new music video channels for free, over-the-air. I live over 40 miles from Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD, but can pick up the following music video channels for free:

  • Fox 45.3 Baltimore (Country Music)
  • WRIC 8.2 Richmond (Country Music) — [same as 45.3 Baltimore]
  • WNUV 54.2 Washington, DC (Rock Music)

Additionally, public tv channels (WETA, Maryland Public Television, etc) often carry programming such as Austin City Limits and other special musical broadcasts.

How Can I Watch Music Videos for Free?

The increasing availability of music videos on over-the-air television provides yet another reason to cancel expensive cable tv subscriptions and go back to low-tech over-the-air tv viewing.

What you can pick up will depend on your location, but I highly recommend buying the Terk Technology HDTVi VHF/UHF HDTV Indoor Antenna. This is the antenna owned and trusted by the Low-Tech Times.
