Memories of N&W 1218

Train Tuesdays

I scanned some pictures of Norfolk and Western Class A 1218 from her Norfolk Southern steam program days. As a pre-teen/teenager, my first camera was a 126 mm film camera that took square pictures. My next camera was a 110 mm film camera.

My family rode behind the 1218 from Manassas to Front Royal and back for one fine excursion.

Here are a few shots from northern Virginia from 1987-1990. This first one was taken in 1987 at Burke Centre behind the Hechinger’s Shopping Center.

I’m not sure where this next one was taken in 1988, possibly in Alexandria or Manassas. Please comment if you know the location.

This one was taken again at Burke Centre in 1988…

Finally, this last one is a shot from 1990. I’m thinking the location might be Clifton or Old Town Burke Update: Thanks to commenter 227 for identifying the location as Burke. Again, please let me know if you recognize the location.
