Music Mondays and Train Tuesdays [combined this week]
Good music and trains go together. First, here’s a good cover of Hurt by Johnny Cash. It’s not a train song, but the music video for Hurt shows Johnny Cash riding in the cab of Southern 4501.
Railroad songs by Johnny Cash include:
- Folsom Prison Blues
I hear the train a comin’;
It’s rolling round the bend
and I ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when. - Orange Blossom Special – Johnny Cash’s version features harmonica instead of the usual fiddle
- Life’s Railway to Heaven (with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band):
Life is like a mountain railway,
with an engineer that’s brave.
We must make the run successful,
from the cradle to the grave.
Watch for curves, and hills and valleys;
Never falter never fail.
And keep your hands upon the throttle,
and your eye upon the rail. - Wreck of the Old 97
- Let the Train Blow the Whistle:
Let her blow, let her blow.
Long and loud and hard and happy,
Let her blow. - Down There By the Train

That video is copyright, and I believe it may have been submitted without permission, take that into account before embedding it. YouTube does have a copyright policy but it’s not very well enforced. People have no excuse for submitting copyrighted material without permission.
It does look like it was posted by someone other than the record company, but I figure it would’ve been taken down by now if someone had a problem with it. The video has 37 million views!
That’s no excuse, anyone who does not own the copyright is supposed to have explicit permission *before* submitting, full stop.
