Just weeks after Earl Scruggs passed away, the bluegrass community lost another banjo great. Doug Dillard of The Dillards passed away last week at the age of 75.
The Dillards recorded many fine songs and for a time Doug Dillard was accused of recording tricks since his banjo playing was so fast. The truth is he really did pick that fast. The Dillards were featured as the Darlings on The Andy Griffith Show:
Recommended tracks by The Dillards include:
- Dooley – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Doug’s Tune – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Old Home Place – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Reuben’s Train – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Somebody Touched Me – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Lonesome Indian – Back Porch Bluegrass
- Reuben’s Train – Back Porch Bluegrass
Come to think of it, you may as well just pick up the entire Back Porch Bluegrass – The Dillards album. Rest in peace, Doug Dillard!
