The Terminator Campaigns for McCain

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

My wife and I caught the original Terminator movie on free tv this weekend.  Terminator is a great action-adventure movie where ordinary citizen Sarah Connor battles a hi-tech machine.

The star of the movie series, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, made news this weekend by campaigning with Senator John McCain.  Carl Campanile reports in the NY Post:

“I’m about building up the bodies and pumping up . . . I want to invite Sen. Obama to the gym . . . We have to do something about his skinny legs!” Schwarzenegger, a former world-champion bodybuilder, told the crowd at Nationwide Arena.

“He has to do squats.”

“If only we can put meat on his ideas!” he added, telling the crowd, “You look all pumped up!”

He lavished praise on the GOP nominee, saying, “John McCain is ready to lead. We don’t have to wonder if he’s president of the United States.”

He added, “John McCain has served longer in a POW camp than his opponent has in the US Senate . . . I was an action hero in the movies. John McCain is a real action hero.”

Stopping Political Robo-Calls

With the election nearing in the U.S., many people are being inundated at home with automatic robo calls.  This can be a highly irritating experience.  So far, I’ve only received two robocalls, both from Democrats:

  1. Michelle Obama called repeatedly asking me to vote early in Virginia.
  2. Judy Fader called with an abortion message attacking incumbent  Frank Wolf in Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

The stoppoliticalcalls.org web site apparently allows you to opt out of receiving these calls.  With only a few days left before the election, I probably won’t bother doing so.

Weekend Running Report

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I did not brave the rain to run the Greasey-Gooney 10k on Saturday, but the results will be posted here.

Runners had better weather in the Marine Corp Marathon on Sunday.  One impressive fact is that four runners have completed the Marine Corp Marathon every single year.  Will Brown, Alfred Richmond, Matthew Jaffe, and Mel Williams are known as the Groundpounders.

The worst weather of all was across the Atlantic in England, where as many as 1000 runners in the Original Mountain Marathon were unaccounted for in an intense storm.  Fox News reports…
