Reseeding a Lawn

garden weasel
Although you can lay down grass seed anytime of the year, early spring or fall are the best time to do the job.

Many people hire companies to reseed their lawn.  Others buy or rent expensive equipment to aerate their lawn prior to putting down seed.

Instead of using expensive motorized aeration machines, The Low-Tech Times recommends using a garden weasel to prepare the soil for seed.  This is especially recommended if you are only reseeding bare patches or do not have a very large area to reseed.  Once the soil is prepared with a garden weasel, simply lay down the grass seed, cover with straw, and keep moist.

You should research what type of grass does best in your area; I have found that tall fescue works well here in Virginia.

Manual Can Openers vs Electric Can Openers

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

There are four good reasons to choose a manual can opener over electric can openers:

  1. A manual can opener works when the power goes out.
  2. Manual can openers do not require a great deal of time or effort to open a can.
  3. Manual can openers easily fit in a kitchen drawer, thus saving valuable counter space.
  4. Manual can openers generally cost less than electric can openers.

Here’s a link to a manual can opener that leaves no sharp edges with good customer reviews available from Amazon.Com:

Nail Guns vs Hammers

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

[By Guest Author Doug M.] If you hammer less than 10 nails a year, the nail gun is NOT for you. One of the best ways to keep coordination and those fine motor skills sharp is to use the good old-fashioned hammer for projects. After a few hammered thumbs you’ll soon learn to be a marksman at hitting your target with a hammer. Pain is a great motivator for achievement.
